Maharashtra’s Chhagan Bombale and Andhra Pradesh’s Kavitha Reddy won the men’s and women’s titles in the 2022 Mumbai Half Marathon at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai on Sunday. On a cloudy morning, Bombale comfortably won the 21k event that started and ended in the Jio Gardens, in 1 hour 16:11 minutes. He shook off his challengers one by one, leaving Bhagatsing Valvi in second place over a minute behind at 1:17:51. Anil Jindal took third place in 1:18:20.
The women’s event was also a one-sided affair as Kavitha Reddy punched a decent gap against the chasing pack and captured the tie in 1:37:03, leaving her closest rival Tanmaya Karmarkar more than three minutes behind at 1:40:18.
Ketaki Sathe was third, another four minutes on the clock in 1:44:55.
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar marked the races and later congratulated the winners.
“It’s been quite a challenge for everyone over the past two years because of the pandemic, but I’m overwhelmed to see so many lined up for the city’s first biggest run since,” Tendulkar said, speaking in interacted with the media.
