Cricket South Africa (CSA) released an official statement Monday saying there is “no basis to support” any of the disciplinary charges, including charges of racism, against the men’s team head coach Mark Boucher. “The CSA board has therefore formally and unconditionally withdrawn all charges,” the board said in a statement. The CSA board has now made the decision to formally drop all disciplinary charges against Boucher.
“CSA concluded that there was no basis to support the charges against Boucher. CSA has therefore dropped the charges and will contribute to its legal costs,” the statement said.
CSA and Boucher discussed the way forward and committed to open dialogue and engagement to advance the interests of South African cricket and achieve CSA’s strategic goals of access, inclusiveness and excellence.
By December 2021, the CSA Board had received the report from the independent Social Justice & Nation-Building (SJN) Ombudsman, Adv Dumisa Ntsebeza SC.
This particular report mentioned “preliminary findings” in relation to Boucher, but since the Ombudsman stated that he was not in a position to make “final findings”, he recommended that further formal processes be taken to reach a final determination of these issues. come.
The CSA board then decided to initiate formal proceedings according to the recommendations of the SJN report and gave all parties involved, including Boucher, the opportunity to respond to the allegations and fully explain their case.

“The indictment against Boucher ultimately contained the preliminary finding of the SJN ombudsman, as well as issues arising from CSA’s own internal investigation following the resignation of Proteas’ assistant coach, Enoch Nkwe,” the release said.
Lawson Naidoo, Chair of the CSA Board, noted, “CSA has been committed at all times to addressing SJN issues in a manner that treats it with the utmost seriousness, while also ensuring fairness, due process and finality. The decision to drop charges brings the finality of these issues to CSA and Mark and allows focus to return to the cricket pitch – where we are confident Mark and the Proteas will continue to grow stronger.”
