The victorious Indian cricket team was fined 20 percent of match money on Friday for maintaining a slow overload against South Africa in the first Test. India will also lose one point from their ICC World Men’s Test Championships due to this violation, the ICC said. Andrew Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite panel of match referees imposed the sanction after India finished one that was too short for goal after the time allowed was taken into account.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which pertains to minimum overload violations, players will be fined 20 percent of their match money for each time their side does not bowl within the allotted time, which reports the ICC in a statement.
In addition, according to Rule 16.11 of the ICC World Men’s Test Championships, a side is penalized with one point for each overshort.
Captain Virat Kohli pleaded guilty to the crime and accepted the proposed sanction, so a formal hearing was not necessary.
