Ronaldo said on Monday that his spat with Manchester United will not adversely affect the Portugal national team at the World Cup in Qatar. Reduced to a fringe role at United this season, the superstar lashed out at his club and United coach Erik ten Hag in a TV interview last week.
“I have no doubt that this recent episode, that interview and other episodes with other players that sometimes appear, can sometimes shake the player, but not the team,” Ronaldo said at a press conference in the Portuguese camp.
Ronaldo was suspended over the Premier League club’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur last month.
The 37-year-old claimed during the interview with British journalist Piers Morgan that he felt “provoked” by Ten Hag to that reaction.
