Srihari Nataraj finished 5th in the men’s 50m backstroke final
Indian swimmer Srihari Nataraj finished a creditable fifth in the men’s 50m backstroke, while Sajan Prakash’s campaign came to an end after failing to make the final of the men’s 100m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games on Monday. Srihari clocked 25.23 seconds in the final at the Sandwell Aquatics Center here. The Bengaluru swimmer had finished seventh in the final of the 100-meter backstroke on Sunday.
Nataraj has one more event to go, the 200m backstroke.
Prakash, on the other hand, was unable to take advantage of a second chance to make it to the 100m butterfly final as he finished last in the semifinals over 16 swimmers with a time of 54.24s.
The Kerala swimmer was knocked out of the event after finishing seventh in his heat and 19th overall.
However, three swimmers, including a reserve, withdrew from the final, giving Prakash a second chance to make the last eight.
This ended Prakash’s campaign with the CWG. He hadn’t made it to the finals of his other two events – including the 50m and 200m butterfly.
On Sunday, he finished a disappointing ninth in the men’s 200-meter butterfly, his favorite event.
