The Indian men’s badminton team made history on Sunday by winning a gold medal for the first time at the Thomas Cup. Heading into the top game against Indonesia, the odds were stacked against India as their opponents were the defending champions and had won the tournament 14 times. But in the final, Lakshya Sen, Chirag Shetty, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Kidambi Srikanth took their A-game to court and India sealed the match within the first three matches. HS Prannoy, who is also a member of the men’s badminton team, shared a photo with the gold medal on social media.

Prannoy made the difference in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Both games were tied at 2-2 and on both occasions, Prannoy won the last game, to seal the victory for India.
The 29-year-old first defeated Malaysian Leong Jun Hao in the quarterfinals and then defeated Danish Rasmus Gemke in the semifinals.
Speaking of the India-Indonesia summit meeting, India took a 1-0 lead after Lakshya Sen defeated Indonesian Anthony Ginting in the first match.

Hereafter, India further improved their lead to 2-0 after Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty came out of a match and defeated Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 18-21, 23-21, 21-19.
In the third game of the final, Jonatan Christie’s Kidambi Srikanth triumphed 21-15, 23-21 and India eventually made script history in front of a packed audience at Impact Arena in Bangkok on Sunday.
