Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer retired from professional tennis last week after playing his last game at the Laver Cup. Federer played alongside longtime rival Rafael Nadal while representing Team Europe but did not have the best possible result as the duo ended up losing their match. On Instagram, Federer showed how he lost his last doubles, singles and team event. He also advised not to think too much about that “perfect ending”.
“We all hope for a fairytale ending. This is how mine went: lost my last singles. more perfect and I’m so happy with how everything went. So don’t think too much about that perfect ending, yours will always be great be in your own way,” Federer wrote on Instagram.
After his last game at Laver Cup, Federer was in tears and became emotional. Nadal also couldn’t hold back his tears and the photo of the duo getting emotional went viral.
Federer and Nadal went to Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 11-9 in the O2 arena.
Throughout his career, Federer enjoyed a great rivalry with Nadal and Djokovic. He played 40 times against Spaniard Nadal, behind which the Swiss tennis player was 16-24. Federer is down 23-27 against Djokovic.

Aside from eight Wimbledon titles, Federer won five US Open titles, 1 French Open title and 6 Australian Open titles. During his career, Federer enjoyed a great rivalry with the likes of Nadal and Djokovic. Touted as the ‘Big Three’, these stars dominated the sport like no other.
It was in the 2006 season when Federer had his most success winning 12 singles titles and also holding a match record of 92-5. The Swiss tennis master managed to reach the final in no fewer than 16 of the 17 tournaments in which he participated this season.
