The ICC Board's meeting with Champions Trophy broadcaster Star Sports to discuss the operational modalities of hosting the tournament in 'Hybrid Model' and the future schedule has been postponed to Saturday, according to sources. In another interesting move, BCCI Joint Secretary Devajit Lon Saikia represented India at the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday. On the same day, former BCCI secretary Jay Shah visited the ICC headquarters for the first time as president of the global body.
Shah met the Board of Directors including Faruque Ahmed of Bangladesh, Roger Twose of New Zealand, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice, Vice Chairman Imran Khwaja, Tavengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe, Mubashshir Usmani of UAE, Shammi Silva of Sri Lanka, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Samad Moosajee from South Africa and Mahinda Vallipuram from Malaysia. They were all present in Dubai.
The meet and greet session was basically a platform for all like-minded cricket boards to pledge their support for the 'Hybrid Model' to the new ICC chairman.
Although the representatives of England and Wales Cricket, Cricket Australia and Cricket West Indies were not present in person, no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board came.
It is understood that ICC board members will overwhelmingly reject the Pakistan Cricket Board's demands for a merger model and that Pakistan will also receive no guarantees that future ICC events in India will be conducted under the 'hybrid model'. .
The only thing the PCB could have any influence on is additional compensation. Broadcasters have already written that a Champions Trophy without India is a non-starter and an Indo-Pak group match is also non-negotiable for them because of the revenue generated.
