Netherlands men’s team head coach and former Australian wicket-keeper Ryan Campbell has been admitted to an ICU in London after suffering a massive heart attack. According to the ICC website, the 50-year-old felt chest pains and difficulty breathing on Saturday while out with his family. According to Perth journalist and friend of the Campbell family, he was still unresponsive at the hospital on Sunday evening, but was making attempts to breathe on his own.
Campbell had traveled back to Europe from the Dutch team’s tour of New Zealand and had visited friends and family in his home city of Perth the week before.
Campbell was appointed as the national coach of the Netherlands in January 2017.
As a player, he represented both Australia and Hong Kong.
He played for Hong Kong in their 2016 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign, becoming the oldest player to make his debut at 44 years and 30 days.
