Spanish international Ferran Torres signed for Manchester City’s tight Barcelona on Tuesday, the Catalan side announced. Despite their financial difficulties, Barcelona have reportedly struck a deal worth €55 million ($62 million, £47 million) for the 22-year-old. “FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City on the transfer of Ferran Torres,” Barcelona said in a statement on their website.
“The player has signed a contract for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2027.
“His surrender clause has been set at 1,000 million euros.”
Torres has scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for City since moving from Valencia last year, but this season he has been disrupted by a broken foot that has sidelined him since October.
He won the Premier League, the League Cup and reached the Champions League final in his only full season in Manchester.
City manager Pep Guardiola said last week that Torres had asked to leave and that he would not stand in his way.
Torres will fill the vacuum left at Barcelona by another former City striker Sergio Aguero.
The City record scorer had to retire earlier this month due to a heart condition, just months under his spell at the Catalan giants.
Barca have already been eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage for the first time in 20 years and face a battle to qualify for next season’s competition as they are seventh in La Liga before the winter break.
However, they may even still struggle to register Torres within the salary cap imposed by La Liga.

Lionel Messi’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain was caused by the club’s inability to keep the Argentinian due to mounting debts.
Barca posted a loss of €481 million last season, with a gross debt of €1.35 billion.
