Rashid Khan is best known as a magician with the ball, but on Wednesday he won a match with the bat for Gujarat Titans in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 clash against SunRisers Hyderabad. Chasing 196, the Titans needed 22 in the final. Rashid Khan struck out at 13 out of 7, while Rahul Tewatia was staking and the better set of the two at 33 out of 19. Tewatia, who had already helped them win two final-over thrillers this season, beat Marco Jansen for a six from the first delivery, but had to settle for a single from the second. Then a bloodbath unfolded.
Rashid shuffled across the stumps before clearing with a massive thud. The next ball was a swing and a miss, taking nine out of two.
Jansen then went for the wide yorker, but Rashid was ready, went low and slammed him over cover, just above the fielder in the deep end.
Running out of ideas, Jansen aimed a short ball into Rashid’s body, but the Afghan maverick turned and jerked behind his deep square leg to win the match for Gujarat against his former franchise.

It was the second time GT scored two sixes on two deliveries this season to win a race.
While Tewatia went unbeaten at 40 out of 21, Rashid finished at 31 out of 11.
SRH had previously scored 195/6 with half a century from Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram and a brilliant 25 out of 6 cameo by Shashank Singh.
Umran Malik’s brilliant spell of 5/25 caused Gujarat to be reduced to 140/5 after 16 overs.

Tewatia was key in giving momentum going into the final, but SRH bowlers did well to make it 22.
However, Rashid caused heartbreak for his former team as the Titans consolidated their position at the top of the IPL 2022 points table.
