Umran Malik is currently one of the most exciting fast bowling prospects in India as he has the knack of consistently bowling in the 150km/h range. The SunRisers Hyderabad pacer has thrown the fastest ball of the season after clocking 157 mph against Delhi Capitals. India now has plenty of fast bowlers who can bowl at a good pace and the biggest question on everyone’s mind right now is whether Umran would deserve a call-up to the national team.
“Umran Malik has the pace, but personally, if you take my opinion, I’m not a big fan of pace. If you’re bowling at 140, but you can move the ball either way, it’s enough He’s got the pace, but I think he needs a little more time to mature because with the pace, bowlers also need to work on accuracy,” Shami said during an interaction with select media outlets on Friday.
When asked about the rising stocks of young fast bowlers in the country, Shami said: “It’s clearly a good sign for any country when you see young players bowling with good pace and swing. When you see you have the talent, do you have speed , clarity comes to your mind and you know what is best for your team. In the end it all comes down to the experience so it’s important to give the youngsters games and it’s important to give the youngsters to the seniors It is important to give these youngsters sufficient playing time.
“This year a lot of fast bowlers have come to the fore in the IPL. It’s good to see our country’s future well taken care of. Mohsin Khan has practiced with me, he is young and strong. focus more; you have to work to both physical and mental aspects. I just hope that all these youngsters will do well in the future.”
Umran has already taken five wickets this season and it had come up against Gujarat Titans and his current wicket count stands at 15. But in the last three matches the pacer has fallen short and was unable to take a single wicket to take. The fast bowler from Jammu may be hitting 150km/h constantly, but has been blood-curdling in recent matches.

Earlier this week, Shami’s Gujarat Titans was the first team this season to qualify for the playoffs and Shami is pleased with what his franchise has played this season.
“We’ve created a good team bond; you’ve seen that we’ve put in a complete team performance in every match. Everyone clicked; the package has been good for us. As a team, we played well in the tournament,” said Shami.
