The incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma was reelected unopposed at Friday’s general meeting as president of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) for a second four-year term – from 2022 to 2026. Sarma, who is also the current Chief Minister of Assam , was first elected BAI chief in 2017. He is also Vice President of Badminton Asia and a member of the Badminton World Federation Executive Council. Former junior national team coach Sanjay Mishra becomes the new general secretary of BAI and incumbent Ajay Kumar Singhania becomes vice president in the new Executive Council.
Maharashtra Badminton Association president Arun Lakhani will be the new treasurer.
Chief national coach Pullela Gopichand will also make a trip to the BAI administration after being elected vice president along with Anbumani Ramadoss and nine others.
“Badminton has prevailed in India for the past two decades and we are determined to continue that rise by providing players with better facilities and a robust governance system,” Sarma said after his re-election as BAI chief.

The newly elected Executive Council will have 11 vice-chairmen, eight joint secretaries and an equal number of committee members.
