Kolkata Knight Riders batter Nitish Rana made his India-debut during the Sri Lanka tour last July. In his lone ODI innings, the lefthander scored 7 runs, while scoring 15 runs overall in two T20I innings. Such a start in international cricket has not earned Rana a second national call-up, but the player is optimistic about his return to the national side. Rana admitted he could have done better on his first chance and said he will improve his performance to earn a place in the national team.
Rana looks to the upcoming Indian Premier League season to grab the attention of the selectors and he is determined to give his 100 percent.
“As a cricketer I would have liked to have had another chance but I don’t want to apologize as I haven’t played very well. I want to score 500 plus runs from next IPL season so the selectors can’t ignore me The things I do I have in hand, are having good performances and scoring runs, and I’m trying to improve there. This season I hope to score more runs. But not everything is in my hands, I want to do my best. that’s all. I will do my Give 100 percent wherever I play and will perform well,” Rana said in an interview with India Today.
Rana scored 361 runs at an average of 27.77 in IPL 2022, but he thinks he needs to do better to get into the Indian team. However, he added that he will also try to do better in domestic cricket.

“If people don’t select me after I’ve made 400 runs, I’ll have to make 600 runs, and I understand that now. The future is in my hands and I’m working on it,” said Rana.
“I don’t have goals as such. I want to score more runs in the domestic season, and then in the IPL season and the things I’ve wanted for a few years they will come,” he added.
