Should Virat Kohli play in the T20 World Cup for the Indian cricket team or not? The skinny spot of the former Indian skipper has raised this question which was unimaginable in Indian cricket at one time. He has been without a barrel since November 2019 and his recent performance in the Tour of England is also nothing worth mentioning. IN this scenario, Kohli has not been named in the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming Tour of West Indies in India. A certain section of cricket pundits believe that Kohli, in its current form, is not an automatic choice for the T20 World Cup.
Now, while speaking on The ICC Review, former Australian cricket team captain Ricky Ponting has commented on the matter.
“If you leave Virat out on the eve of the World Cup and someone comes in and has a decent tournament, it will be difficult for Virat to get back in,” Ponting said.
“If I was India I’ll keep pushing with him because I know the benefits. If they get him back really confident and play the best they can, that advantage is better than most. So I think if I’m a captain or a coach around the Indian set-up, I’ll make it as easy as possible for him to be as comfortable as possible, and just wait for him to flip the switch and start scoring points again.”
Ponting, who led Australia to two World Cup wins in 2003 and 2007, said Kohli can still make an impact.
“I think if I were an opposition captain or an opposition player, I would be more afraid of playing against an Indian team that has Virat Kohli in it than I would be one that doesn’t have him,” commented. Pont on.

“I know there’s been some challenges for him, it’s been a tough time. But every great player I’ve seen in this game has been through it at some point, whether that’s a batsman or a bowler, they’ve been through it all…
“And somehow the best (players) find a way to rebound and react, and it’s only a matter of time before Virat does.”
