India’s Suryakumar Yadav moved significantly closer to Pakistani Mohammad Rizwan, the number one T20I batter in the world rankings, ramping up the battle for first place. Both Rizwan and Suryakumar had a decent performance in their home series against England and South Africa respectively. Capping India’s most recent T20I series at home against South Africa by two half-centuries and as their highest series scorer with a total of 119 runs, Yadav kept his astonishing climb into 2022.
Yadav’s performance brought him up to 16 rating points from Rizwan in the latest T20I batter rankings, which the ICC announced on October 5. Australia for its recent impressive show.
With an impressive total of 316 runs in the recent T20I seven-game series against England, Rizwan finished as the series’ top scorer. However, the veteran was rested for game six of the series and came to just one point in the series final in Lahore, leaving the righthander with significant breathing room at the top of the standings.
The battle for first place is so close that Yadav might have even passed his Pakistani counterpart by a significant score in India’s last game of India’s series against South Africa in Indore, but the righthander was out by just eight points.
While a number of other batters from around the world made huge strides in the most recent rankings, Pakistani captain Babar Azam is still third in the T20I batter’s rankings and should not be ignored for reclaiming first place.
India opener KL Rahul jumps seven places to 14th on the updated list after his 108 runs from two matches against the Proteas, while South African trio Quinton de Kock (up eight places to 12th), Rilee Rossouw (23 places up to 20th) ) and David Miller (10 places up to 29th) were also notable movers on the list.
After a decent run for England against Pakistan, reliable top player Dawid Malan rises one rank to fifth, and team-mate Ben Duckett (up eight places to 24th) is also improving.
Following the conclusion of two recent series in India and Pakistan, there has been some shuffling behind Australian sailor Josh Hazlewood in the new roster of T20I bowlers.
South African and English spinners Tabraiz Shamsi and Adil Rashid both fall three places in the top 10, while Afghan Rashid Khan, Wanindu Hasaranga and veteran Australian Adam Zampa move up two places each.
South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has moved up seven positions to tenth overall after a successful run against India in which the 32-year-old took four wickets with an economy of just over seven, breaking through to the spin-dominated top 10.

Taking five wickets from four matches against Pakistan, English sailor Reece Topley climbs nine places to 14th overall, while veteran Indian Ravichandran Ashwin slides a remarkable 28 slots to 20th.
The top 10 all-rounders on the most recent list have hardly changed, with Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi remaining at the top and Indian dasher Hardik Pandya dropping one spot to fifth overall.
