Ravindra Jadeja’s decision to leave Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) came at a time when the team was struggling. His personal form wasn’t great either. Seeing all the factors, Jadeja took the call to relinquish the captaincy of the second most successful franchise in the history of the tournament. MS Dhoni, who led CSK to four titles, is back as captain. However, Jadeja’s decision has impressed several former players, including Graeme Swann and ex-coach of Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri.
“We all have our favorite teams to play against and the fact that he’s done well against RCB in the past is pretty important. Doesn’t feel comfortable with it. The male ego doesn’t allow you to say it easily. So the fact that he did that and allowed MS to come back in is better for him CSK and it’s good news everywhere and honestly I love him I think he’s brilliant What he’s up to franchise is incredible. CSK would be half without him,” Swann told Star Sports on Wednesday ahead of the CSK vs RCB IPL 2022 match in Pune.
Former India coach Ravi Shastri also agreed with Swann.
“Good of him to go up and say straight that I can’t handle it. It’s something I’m not used to. He hasn’t captained at any level. So it’s good. I think we’ll have another cricketer He can do whatever he wants, the responsibility of being captain is gone and all three divisions can come out with full force,” said the former India coach.
“In addition, as an outfield player, without worrying about who is going to bowl, he will be devastating. Because he can run matches with overruns. We’ve seen that time and time again. He’s infectious with the way he covers that extend on the field. He is like a bullet on the field,” he said.
