Deepak Hooda played a spectacular 104 run knockout as India managed to beat Ireland by just four runs in the second match to take the 2-0 T20I series 2-0 on Tuesday. For the visitors, it was the 176-run partnership between Hooda and Sanju Samson that led their team to a total of 225 runs. At the post-match presentation ceremony, Hooda, named Player of the Match and Series, expressed his delight to see his childhood friend Sanju doing well.
“Sanju is a childhood friend, we played U-19 together, I’m happy for him too. Ireland is very good, I enjoyed it a lot. Fans here are fantastic, I never felt (I played) outside India .” Yes, the wicket is different. Thanks to all the fans for the support,” Hooda said.
The right-hander crushed 104 of 57 deliveries, becoming only the fourth Indian man to reach a T20 International century. His knock was decorated with nine fours and six hits over the fence.
“I come from a good IPL, I tried to follow the same performance here as well. I like to play aggressively. I alternate the order, I have the time, I try to play according to the situation,” he added.
Speaking of the match, the top shots from captain Andrew Balbirnie (60), Paul Stirling (40) and Harry Tector (39) were in vain as India grabbed the match in Ireland’s last over and the final ball thriller with won four runs.
India has won the series 2-0. However, Ireland will go home with many positives as they were in the game until the last ball and scared India with their striker.
