Just a few days after being bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, KL Rahul already seems to be on good terms with the franchise's management. DC co-owner Parth Jindal had stated that he plans to treat KL Rahul with the “love and respect he deserves” after the auction, and also said that he and Rahul had attended football matches of Bengaluru FC, a different team, together which belonged to Jindal. Now, Rahul has posted a hilarious post on his Instagram, in which he is seen juggling a cricket ball and asking Jindal if there is a spot at Bengaluru FC too.
“Do you have an opening at Bengaluru FC?” posted Rahul on an Instagram story. It is important to note that Rahul is also from Bengaluru.
During his IPL journey, KL Rahul represented four different franchises – Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Despite his stellar performances, an IPL title has remained elusive. His move to the Delhi Capitals heralds a mutual pursuit of the coveted trophy, with both player and team looking to end the title drought.
Rahul's versatility as a batsman and wicketkeeper has made him one of the most valuable players in the league. He started his IPL career in the middle order and soon moved into an opening role, consistently topping the charts. Between 2018 and 2022, Rahul scored more than 590 runs every season, underscoring his reliability and prowess at the highest level.
In 2018, Rahul stunned fans with a blistering 14-ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils, setting a record for the fastest half-century in the tournament at the time.
In 2020, he won the Orange Cap for scoring the most points in the season, with an impressive 670 points.
Rahul's leadership journey started with the Punjab Kings in the 2020-2021 season where he took up his first captaincy role and showcased his strategic acumen.
After joining LSG, he led the team to the play-offs in their debut season and repeated the feat the following year. However, a thigh injury limited him to just nine matches in IPL 2023.
The acquisition of Rahul by Delhi Capitals is both a strategic move and a bold statement of intent. With his consistent run-scoring prowess and proven leadership, he is expected to play a crucial role in the Capitals' quest for their maiden IPL title. As the new season approaches, both KL Rahul and the Delhi Capitals will be hoping to forge a successful partnership and ultimately claim the IPL trophy.
