The under-construction international cricket stadium at Narsingarh in Tripura could become the second home of Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2025 IPL season as the iconic Eden Garden in Kolkata will undergo a massive makeover next year, a Tripura official said Cricket Association (TCA). on Friday. Construction of the International Stadium in Narsingarh started way back in 2017 with an estimated cost of Rs. 185 crore, but the stadium is not ready yet. “IPL chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal recently visited the proposed international stadium in Narsingarh on the outskirts of the capital. He said if the stadium is ready before February next year, it could become the second home ground of KKR or another state would get the benefit,” TCA secretary Subarta Dey told PTI.
“As it is a golden opportunity to host IPL matches at the proposed stadium, we have roped in a reputed construction agency to expedite the work and get it completed by February 2025.
“The TCA will review the construction work and if the agency does not meet the deadline, we will terminate construction and engage a new company to complete the remaining work,” he said.
The agency has so far achieved 80 percent completion in the past seven years, while the project deadline was only 22 months.
Dey said the issue was discussed at the TCA general meeting held here on Thursday where it was decided to make every effort to complete the stadium work within the stipulated time.
“If we can complete the work on the stadium by February next year, I am confident of hosting at least two IPL matches of KKR at the Narsingarh International Cricket Stadium,” he said.
