Ishan Kishan was the cynosure of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction when Mumbai Indians (MI) splashed INR 15.25 crore to pick the left-handed opener. It made him one of the most expensive players ever in the history of the T20 franchise cricket league. However, eight games into the current season, Kishan has not lived up to the hype. He has only counted 199 with an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 108.15. After scoring half a century in the first two matches of the IPL 2022, Kishan has failed to get past 26 in the next six matches.
His poor form has also had an impact on MI’s performance as the five-time champion has yet to win a match despite playing eight games. Their eighth defeat came on Sunday against Lucknow Supergiants when MI failed to chase a modest target of 169. Kishan also couldn’t get going as he scored only eight from 20 balls.
What was the crown, however, was Kishan’s manner of dismissal. Kishan found it difficult to score just eight from the first 19 balls he faced when he decided to reach out for leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s wide throw. only to the inside of the ball. The ball took the edge and bounced off the boots of LSG wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock and was caught on the first slip by Jason Holder.

“He’s had a bit of a hard time, we’ve given him the freedom to play his natural game. I haven’t spoken to him today, but I’ll have a talk with him soon,” said the former Sri Lankan player.
“I have to judge the performance of the batters. It’s been a concern until now, but this is a seniors group, so we need to keep pushing. We want to keep the stroke unit as consistent as possible.”
