MS Dhoni’s popularity in Chennai has gained legendary status over the years and his long relationship with Chennai Super Kings means that any performance by him is bound to garner massive fanfare. During the trailer launch of Dhoni’s production film, LGM, Dhoni was asked to give a speech and he said something on stage that left his fans in a frenzy. Dhoni said this was the first time he had visited Chennai since winning an equal fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title with CSK, going on to quote a line from the famous “Whistle Podu” chant. He said – “Chennai Super Kings’ku Periya Whistle Adinga” (big whistles for Chennai Super Kings) and the video has gone viral all over social media.
At the event, the CSK skipper highlighted his relationship with Deepak Chahar, jokingly calling the pacer a “drug”.

“Deepak Chahar is like a drug, when he’s not there you’d think where is he – when he’s around you’d think why he’s here – good part is he’s growing up but he’s got time and that’s the problem is I won’t see him grow up in my lifetime (smiles),’ Dhoni said.
Chahar first came into contact with Dhoni when he was roped in by Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016. After RPS’ stay in the tournament came to an end after the end of the 2017 season, Chahar was roped in by the returning Chennai Super Kings who were managed by none other than the ‘Thala’.
Previously, Chahar had revealed that in 2018 CSK coach Stephen Fleming was reluctant to play him from the start of the season. But Dhoni was determined to give the sailor all 14 matches.
“Interestingly, Fleming had selected me for my batting than my bowling after hitting five sixes in an exhibition game. Unfortunately I suffered a hamstring injury and had to sit out most of the 2016 season,” said Chahar on Breakfast With Champions.
“In the 2017 edition, the combination of the team was fixed and I was allowed to play a few games. In 2018, CSK chose me in the auction and Fleming was hesitant to play against me, while Mahi Bhai disagreed and said : ‘He will play’ all 14 matches of this season”, he added.
