Pacer Umesh Yadav scalps two wickets against Bangladesh A for India A©AFP
Seamer Mukesh Kumar continued his dream show in first-class cricket with best figures of 6/40 as India A rejected Bangladesh A for 252 on the first day of the second ‘unofficial test’ at Sylhet. Mukesh has been a revelation for India A team since making his debut in the series against New Zealand A as he also got a five-for in that series. He received good support from senior pacer Umesh Yadav (2/55 in 16 overs), who warmed up well for the two Test series which begins at Chattogram on 14 December.
Off-spinner Jayant Yadav, who disappointed on the final day of the first ‘Test’, also took two wickets.
At stumps India was A 11 with no loss.
It was Umesh, who got the first break with an inswinger (outwinger for southpaws) to get rid of Shadman Islam who was caught by Sarfaraz Khan in the slip cordon.
Right-hander Mamhmudul Hasan Joy (12), batter No. 3 got a perfectly thrown full outswinger from Mukesh and was caught behind stumps by Kona Bharat.
Bangladesh A’s first match hero Zakir Hasan (46) and test team skipper Mominukl Haque (15) added 42 runs before Jayant trapped the seasoned southpaw earlier.
Mukesh then got some quick breakthroughs – first another delivery that moved a shadow as ‘A team skipper Mohammed Mithun edged towards Sarfaraz in the slip cordon for his second catch.
Zakir, approaching nearly half a century, then grabbed one pushed with a corner and shoved it behind stumps towards Bharat.
Going 84 for 5, young Shahadat Hossain (80) and Jaker Ali (62) held the innings together with 147 runs, which was finally broken by Umesh when he dropped the batter.
Mukesh then blew away the lower order in quick time as the innings wrapped up in 80.5 overs.
