Captain Harmanpreet Kaur van Mumbai -Indians received a fine of 10 percent of her match costs on Friday for showing different opinions during the Umpire's decision during the match of her team against Up Warriorz in the Ekana Cricket Stadium here. The incident took place at the end of the 19th over from Upwinnings when referee Ajitesh Argal HarmanPrreet inquired that only three field players in the final could be outside the circle due to a slow speed. Apparently unhappy with the pronunciation, she was seen in a brief fight with the referee, in which teammate Amelia Kerr also participated in the discussion.
“HarmanPreet Kaur admitted to the level 1 attack on the basis of Article 2.8 that relates to showing different opinions during a referee during a match,” WPL said in a release.
“For breaches at level 1 of the code of conduct, the decision of the competition referee is final and binding.” HarmanPreet also had a spit with Up Warriorz's Sophie Ecclestone during the match, when the English cricket player, who stood at the end of the non-striker, walked to the referee to explain something.
HarmanPreet seemed to respond sharply and asked Ecclestone to stay out of the conversation.
The exchange led to the intervention of Square-Leg Umpire N Janani and Up Warriorz Captain Deepi Sharma, who came in to make the tension harmless.
Up Warriorz then went a total of 150/9, a target that Mumbai Indians chased in 18.3 overs.
