Rohit Sharma called time on his test career on Wednesday. It was a surprising announcement of the right -handed Slagman, who was the test captain on the side because of the last series that played India in the format. Rohit's pension leaves a large void that the Indian cricket team has to fill. Not only the batter, but India also needs a captain to replace it in the size. The party starts his world test championship campaign with a series of five games against England on the home floor of the last, from 20 June. While the selection committee still has to reveal who the leader would be during the outing, former India player Anil Kumble thinks that the team should continue with Jasprit Bumrah.
“Perhaps only for this series (against England) go with Bumrah and then see how his fitness is,” Kumble told Espncricinfo. “I know it is not easy to be a fast bowler. He has had injuries, he was in a break after the Australia series and only returns to this IPL. But I would still go with Bumrah.”
Kumble admitted that it will not be possible for Bumrah to play all five test matches. In particular, India's desperate attempt to give Bumrah in all five tests in the last outing of the side in Australia, saw the Pacer pick up an injury and missed a reasonable part of cricket action. That is why there is a huge need for better workload management for Bumrah. “When that happens, the vice captain arrives and takes over,” said Kume.
The possible CaptainCy candidates for India in Test Cricket are Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Bumrah was the side of the side in a few tests during the tour through Australia.
From now on Rahul and Gill are leaders because of the recurring fitness issues of Vice-Captain Bumrah. However, Bumrah cannot be completely excluded.
Rohit, the man who led India in four ICC tournament -final, who won two of them, is a bona fide legend in the ODIs with more than 11,000 points and 32 centuries.
He rose from tests as the most productive seizure of India in the second half of his career, in which he already scored 4301 runs in 67 tests with 12 hundreds and 18 half centuries on an average of 40.57.
If a source is close to Rohit, according to PTI, the champion batter had decided to withdraw from tests after India won the Champions trophy in March.
And although it was known to the men who went for it, the speculation of his future was thrilled in the media by officials who preferred not to register.
The selection committee, it has been learned, did not clarify Rohit about whether he would reach the English team, which will be announced for some time next week. Rohit, for his part, made it clear to them that he wanted to be the last call on his career.
