Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha broke for centuries to lead Pakistan to the Tri-Series-final in Leiden with a pounding six-wicket victory in South Africa in Karachi on Wednesday. Rizwan led the highest successful chase of Pakistan in all one -day internationals of 353 in 49 overs with a beautiful 122, while Salman 134 struck for his first century in the National Stadium. Pakistan will now be confronted at the same location New Zealand on Friday in the final of the event, which is an important warming up for the Champions trophy that starts next week.
The hundreds made by Rizwan and Salman overshadowed the record of Matthew Breetzke of scoring most runs by a Batsman in his first two one -day internationals of 150 and 83.
The innings of Breetzke had set up an impressive South Africa total of 352-5.
Rizwan and Salman built a match-war stand of 260, a new record for the fourth Wicket for Pakistan, which improves the 206 scored by Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan against India in Centurion in 2009.
Their sizzling innings must also erase doubts about the vulnerable batting of the team, because they improved from the previous highest successful pursuit of Pakistan of 349 against Australia in Lahore in 2022.
Rizwan hit nine boundaries and three sixes from 128 balls, while Salman's 103-ball beat 16 borders and two sixes.
Earlier, Breetzke followed his highest debut score against New Zealand in Lahore on Monday on Monday with an attractive 84-ball 83, seasoned with a six and 10 borders, after South Africa won the Worp.
Breetzke improved West Indian Desmond Haynes's Aggregate of 195 points in his first two games in 1978 before he fell on a brilliant catch by spinner Khushdil Shah.
The acclaimed bowling attack from Pakistan could not prevent the tourists from scoring a large total, with skipper Temba Bavuma (82) and Heinrich Klaasen (87) too.
With wickets that do not fall, frustrated Pakistan fast Bowler Shaheen Afridi crashed angry with Breetzke while the Batsman tried to complete a run.
Shaheen made physical contact and exchanged words with his rival before referee Asif Yaqoob separated the pair.
Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi (22), one of the four changes in the South African team, set up 51 for the opening standard. The captain then built a second-wicket stand of 119 with Breetzke.
Bavuma got up after the cracking of 13 borders in his 96-ball knock.
Klaasen raised the pace with a quick knock of 56 ball and set three sixes and 11 borders while the South Africans added 110 runs in the last 10 overs.
Kyle Verreynne and Corbin Bosch were not eliminated with 44 and 15 respectively to take South Africa after 350.
