It was on this day, 39 years ago, when Kapil Dev led Team India won their first World Cup title. On the way to the tournament, not many gave India a chance to win the competition, but Kapil Dev and his team surprised everyone by going all the way into the tournament. What made the win sweeter was that India outclassed the favorites West Indies in the top match at Lord’s Cricket Ground. India defended an underscore in the final as the bowling lineup showed a spirited performance.
No one can forget the image of Kapil Dev and his team standing on the balcony of the Lord with the World Cup trophy in their hand.
