Australia crashed out of the 2024 T20 World Cup after Afghanistan's thrilling win over Bangladesh in their final Super 8 match on Tuesday. The Mitchell Marsh-led team slumped to a shock defeat to Afghanistan before losing to India – a result that virtually knocked them out of the tournament. The 24-run win for India was a huge result for their fans, who hailed it as 'revenge' for the 2023 Cricket World Cup final defeat in Ahmedabad. During the India-Australia match, Australia ODI team captain Pat Cummins also faced sledding by a fan while walking back to the pavilion after his dismissal. “Hey Pat! That's for 2023, that's revenge for 2023, remember Ahmedabad? And you're going home tomorrow,” the fan could be heard shouting. The video of the incident has surfaced online and has gone viral on social media.
Hey Pat Cummins, this was before 2023.
Now both Afghanistan and India will ensure that your cricket does not survive in the future.#IndvsAus #AfgvsBanpic.twitter.com/lzyrQwCGxO

Coming into the match, Rohit Sharma hit a brilliant 92 to guide India to a grand total of 205 for the loss of 5 wickets. In response, Travis Head was again the top scorer for Australia, but Arshdeep Singh took three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav took two to lead their team to a comprehensive victory.
“Satisfactory. We know the opposition and the threat they bring. As a team we have done well, we have continued to do the things we had to do. Gives us a lot of confidence as a team. 200 is a good score, but if you are playing with the wind here. Because it is a big factor, anything can happen.”
“But I think we got used to the conditions really well, and it was about individuals doing their job. It was about us getting wickets at the right time. (On Kuldeep) We know the power he has, but we have to use it when necessary. In New York there were seam-friendly wickets.”
“He had to miss it, but we knew he had a big role to play here. (In the semi-final) We don't want to do anything different, play the same way and understand what each person has to do. Play freely and not too much thinking about what lies ahead. Not thinking about the opposition. We have done it consistently, we just have to keep going. (On playing England in the semi-final) It will be a great game, nothing will change for us as a team .' Rohit said after the match.
