Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu dropped three places in the latest BWF rankings. According to the most recent women’s singles ranking, released on Tuesday, Sindhu has slipped to 15th in the world. The former No. 2 has witnessed a significant drop in her ranking since the start of the year. She entered the 2023 season ranked seventh in the world, but dropped out of the top 10 in April. In April 2017, the former world champion reached her career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world, according to Olympics.com.
The 27-year-old, who won the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, has struggled with her form this season after returning from a long-term injury.
PV Sindhu came into action again this year at the Malaysian Open and Indian Open and had to leave both tournaments in the first round.
Sindhu has failed to progress past the second round in any of the other seven BWF World Tour events she has competed in so far this year, apart from the Madrid Masters where she reached the final and a top-four finish at the Malaysia Masters.
Sindhu’s fellow Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal remained rooted in 30th position in women’s singles, followed by Aakarshi Kashyap (42), Ashmita Chaliha (44) and Malvika Bansod (46).
HS Prannoy, who won his first BWF World Tour title at the Malaysia Masters in May, remains India’s top male singles player and is currently ranked eighth in the world. Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth is currently ranked 20th, slightly behind Lakshya Sen.
In the men’s doubles category, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remained at number 3, but Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly dropped to number 17 in the women’s doubles division.
Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy, ranked No. 33 in the world, are the top ranked Indian pair in mixed doubles.
