Russia to appeal against FIFA, UEFA bans for invasion of Ukraine: CAS© AFP
The Russian Football Association has appealed the suspension of Russian national teams and clubs from all FIFA and UEFA competitions over its invasion of Ukraine, the sport’s highest court said Tuesday. The FUR is asking the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to grant a stay of execution for the suspensions so that Russia can play in a 2022 World Cup play-off against Poland, which was scheduled to be played on March 24.
CAS said in a statement that it had launched two separate arbitration proceedings against FIFA and UEFA respectively, as well as 15 national federations that refused to play against the Russians.

The court said it would provide more details about the proceedings in the coming days once it made a decision on the requests to suspend execution of any decision the Russians are challenging.
