World number two, Daniil Medvedev, entered the second round of the French Open on Tuesday, beating Argentina’s 103rd, Facundo Bagnis, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2. The second seed hit 35 winners and broke eight times against Bagnis, who suffered a nasty slip while serving in the second set and had a badly tied right calf. “I love Roland Garros, especially since last year,” said Medvedev, who had lost in the opening round on his first four trips to Paris before reaching the quarter-finals in 2021. “I hope I can continue this year.”
Medvedev, in the other half of the draw from Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, ruled himself out of Roland Garros’ title contender last week after losing his only clay court game this year in Geneva on his return from hernia surgery.
The Russian underwent surgery in early April after losing in the quarterfinals in Miami.
“Honestly it’s going really well because when I went under the surgery I didn’t think I would play on clay, but I managed to come back and play with the doctor and the physio last week,” he said. Medvedev.

“Physically I feel 100 percent, so I hope to play well.”
Medvedev, who briefly reached number one in the world earlier this year, next time will play against the Serbian Laslo Djere or Ricardas Berankis from Lithuania.
