After a strong start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the Punjab Kings is confronted with a little headache to get their campaign back on the right track. With two defeats in their last three games, the side led by Shreyas Iyer wants to recover the momentum. While the franchise is standing for defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a clear message was sent to management about the selection of the Australian all -rounder Glenn Maxwell. Former New -Zeeland cricket player Simon Doull has encouraged skipper Shreyas Iyer and the coaches to bench Maxwell for the important competition.
So far, Maxwell has had one of his typical Stop-Start campaigns, with hardly any runs from his bat. Although he sometimes threw with a wicket or two, Doull believes that there are better options to choose from the couch.
“I think Maxwell has had his run. I mean exactly the way he comes out at the moment, it would frustrate me as a coach. That is the disappointing, I think, from their point of view. So Omarzai is for him, Inglis in for him, something that I would probably watch,” said Simon Doull that was before the game on Tuesday.
Punjab Kings will be against KKR without the services of Lockie Ferguson, because the Kiwi Pacer is excluded for the rest of the season due to an injury.
“Big loss for them in Lockie Ferguson. He bowed two balls in that game. Remember, that might have made a pretty big difference in that run. I think, you know, you, they had to go to Stoinis, they had to go to others, if they preferred Lockie. Lockie Ferguson's injury.
