Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and in-form HS Prannoy stormed to the quarter-finals again after registering battle wins at the Singapore Open Super 500 badminton tournament here on Thursday. Third seed Sindhu held back a tough challenge from Vietnam’s world number 59 Thuy Linh Nguyen 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 in women’s singles to set up a clash with China’s Han Yue. Prannoy, the world No. 19, took his second win in three weeks over the world No. 4 and third-seeded Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei 14-21 22-20 21-18 in an hour and nine match minutes.
The 29-year-old Indian, who wants to break his five-year-old title run, will then compete against the Japanese Kodai Naraoka.
A day after taking an upset win over compatriot Kidambi Srikanth, Mithun Manjunath’s series ended with a battling 10-21, 21-18, 16-21 defeat to Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen.

Ashmita Chaliha, who had defeated the Thai Busanan Ongbamrungphan, was also unable to continue in the tournament and lost 9-21 13-21 to Han Yue from China.
Saina Nehwal, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist, and the upcoming men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila are also in contention later in the day.
