Australian skipper Steve Smith and his team did not have a good showing in the first ODI at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Friday as Team India beat them by 5 wickets in a low-scoring thriller. India’s substitute skipper Hardik Pandya won the coin toss and chose to bowl first in the match where regular captain Rohit Sharma missed out due to family commitments. For Australia, Mitchell Starc shone with an 81-run knock-off off 65 balls, but other batters failed to replicate him as the guests were knocked out for 188 runs.
India chased a target of 189 and at one point was reduced to 83 for 5 but the duo of KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja helped them win the match from there.
Smith was seen yawning towards the end of the match and the fans took no time to compare his action to Sarfaraz Ahmed’s viral photo which showed the wicet keeper yawning in a similar manner during a 2019 ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan. .

Talking about the match, KL Rahul hit 75 not out while Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 45 as India chased the target of 189 runs against Australia in 39.5 overs to win the first ODI. The hosts suffered a tremendous meltdown in the meager chase before Rahul and Jadeja pulled them through.
Earlier, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj took three wickets apiece as India bowled out the guests for 188 runs. Australia were 129 for 2 at one point, but they couldn’t count on a good start from Mitchell Marsh in the end.
India’s substitute captain Hardik Pandya had won the toss and opted to bowl first at Wankhede Stadium.
