Australian T20 World Cup winning all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has expressed no surprise at the stellar performance of fellow teammate Cameron Green in his short career, where the latter hit a 19-ball fifty against India in the recently concluded T20I series. Marsh praised the 23-year-old for showing great skills and playing to the needs of the team.
“People from the outside might be surprised, but internally nobody is surprised. He’s a super talent. He got a role to go out and be really aggressive. The most important thing for me is the selflessness he has, but for a young guy who doesn’t have a permanent place on that team to play fearless cricket shows more about him than his actual skill,” said Marsh as quoted by cricket.com.au.
“Not to have someone like him on your team shows how good we are. We are the defending world champions for a reason,” he added.
Despite being left out of Australia’s 15-man World Cup squad, Green’s standout attack at the top of the order on their recent tour of India was impressive.
The 23-year-old is part of the roster for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies in Brisbane and Gold Coast, but he may not play as Mitchell Starc, Marsh, David Warner, Marcus Stoinis and the other players who missed out the India series returns.
Marsh is also sure that Green will make a lot of money thanks to his excellent skills with both the bat and the ball.
Prior to the series, Green had only played one international T20 game, but in his first attempt to open the innings, he shot scores of 61 (off 30 balls), 5 and 51 (off 25).
His white-ball prospects are limited by his quick ascent in the Testarena, but he could suddenly attract a lot of attention.
“It’s just the beginning of his T20 career. The amount of money he’s going to make in the next 10 years, I’m going to look for some free feeds,” Marsh said.
There is always a high demand for Australian all-rounders in the IPL, such as Marsh and Stoinis, who have both secured multi-million dollar contracts.
Green’s impressive performance in India came after an outstanding limited-overs campaign last month, where he finished an unexpected comeback win over New Zealand with an unbeaten 89 after taking his first five-wicket-haul in an international ODI match against Zimbabwe.
Marsh is fit again after an ankle injury last month against Zimbabwe in Townsville. His promotion to number three was essential to help Australia win their first men’s T20 title that year.

“I feel great. The ankle from the past 10 days has come really well. I’m back running and doing everything so I’m looking forward to getting stuck,” he said as quoted by Cricket Australia.
Australia will host the West Indies for a two-game T20I series starting October 5 in Queensland and the second T20 on October 7 in Brisbane.
