India’s Tejaswin Shankar won the bronze medal in the men’s high jump final. He jumped 2.22m and finished behind Australian Brandon Starc and New Zealander Hamish Kerr, who won the silver and gold medals respectively.
Tejaswin faltered at the 2.25m elevation and made one last attempt at the 2.28m to see if he could miraculously land the gold, but it wasn’t to be. The bronze medal in the athletics competition is nevertheless a major achievement for the national record holder, who has a personal best of 2.29m.
It is India’s first medal in the sport of high jump at the Commonwealth Games.
