With English all-rounder Ben Stokes retiring from ODIs, there has been a debate over the cricket calendar and how much cricket the players should play. Stokes, speaking for his final ODI earlier this week, had said that players are not cars that can be filled with petrol or diesel. Now Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja has said that there are many countries that play cricket like football and that they will soon realize what they have done.
“There are people who are trying to run cricket like football. Many countries are already doing it. They will soon realize what they have done when they complete the calendar,” Raja Cricket quoted Pakistan as saying.
Earlier, while speaking of Ben Stokes’ decision to withdraw from ODIs, former England captain Nasser Hussain said the current cricket schedule is simply “crazy for players”.

“It’s disappointing news to say the least, but it’s a reflection of where the cricket schedule is at the moment. It’s madness for players. as much cricket as possible, eventually these cricketers will just say I’m done. Stokes is done with one format of 31 years, which is actually wrong. The schedule needs to be looked at, it’s a bit of a joke at the moment,” Hussain told Sky Sports.
“It seems that 50-over cricket is the one everyone is looking at because everyone likes test match cricket and everyone likes T20 cricket. The IPL will have a wider window so that will go on for even longer and players will withdraw from South -Africa has also withdrawn from a bilateral streak that is in the pipeline in white ball cricket, which could cost them qualification for the World Cup, and that is a big problem,” he added.
