India Batter Abhishek Sharma registered its name in history books with a majestic 54-ball 135 in the 5th and last T20i of the series against England on Sunday. The left -handed opening seizure has always shown the intention to play such extraordinary innings and this time he performed it to perfection at Wankhede. While Abhishek's inspiring knock India helped with a no less than 150-run victory against tourists led by Jos Butler, the young opener started breaking different records. One of the biggest records that Abhishek broke, thanks to his century against England, was the milestone of Virat Kohli to score the most number of runs in a T20i series against England for India.
Abhishek finished the T20i series with 279 runs under his belt in 5 games. With this figure he left Virat Kohli behind and claimed the number 1 place in terms of batters who scored most runs in a bilateral T20i series that was played between India and England.
Kohli had scored against England in 2021 231 in what was also a series of 5 games. Regarding the general record, Tilak Varma has the number 1 place when it comes to the list of batters for the most number of runs in a T20i series – against every opponent. He had hit 280 points last year in just 4 innings against South Africa.
Most runs in a T20i series for India:
280 – Tilak Varma (4 inns) vs Zuid -Afrika, 2024
279 – Abhishek Sharma (5 Hosten) vs England, 2025
231 – Virat Kohli (5 Hosten) vs England, 2021
224 – Kl Rahul (5 Hosten) versus New -Zeeland, 2020
Abhishek hit a record 13 sixes – most by an Indian batter ever in a T20 -international – in the 5th T20i, while he also hit seven four to pin England bowlers in the iconic shaky stage in Mumbai.
“You can ask every player, there are few such matches (and far in between). I would say that it was all possible because of the efforts I put in practice, the support I received from the coaches and the captain when I did not get the runs or not well, “said Abhishek in the press conference after the match.
“Calculate all these things (good training) at the end and I believed that I will play an innings like this on my day,” he said after the game.
