Ahead of the blockbuster clash between the arch-rivals, former Pakistani skipper and legendary pacemaker Wasim Akram said Indian star batter Suryakumar Yadav will be crucial to the team and has the potential to hurt Pakistan in the Asian Cup. In 23 T20I matches, Suryakumar has broken 672 runs at an average of 37.33 with five fifties and a very recent 100-117 in a hard-fought match against England at The Oval. India will kick off its Asia Cup campaign on August 28 with a high-octane match against Pakistan.
Asia Cup 2022 will be played in the UAE from August 27 to September 11.
“Of course Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are there, but one of my favorite players these days, in this shorter format is Suryakumar Yadav. He has been phenomenal. I saw him the first year when he joined the Kolkata Knight Riders. and he played a few matches at numbers 7 and 8. And a few shots he played – the ones he plucks from the center of his bat to the fine leg – that’s an unusual and difficult shot to collect,” Wasim Akram said in a press conference organized by Star Sports.
“Since joining the Indian squad he has been a joy to watch. He is a very dangerous player against spin and fast bowling. Once he is in the game he is a 360 degree player. In my opinion will He is one of the dangerous players not only against Pakistan but for all teams.”
The 15th edition of the tournament comes to the Asian Cup and is played in the UAE between six teams (main event). Defending champion India is also the most successful team, having won the trophy seven times.
