Former lead-off hitter for India Wasim Jaffer
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finally ended tension over Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s availability for the Edgbaston Test vs England. A BCCI release on Thursday stated that Rohit had returned a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday morning and as a result, paceman Jasprit Bumrah would lead India into the match, with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant as his deputy. Immediately after the release was sent, former Indian lead-off hitter Wasim Jaffer tweeted his India playing XI before the game.

In a surprise move, Jaffer chose two spinners, including both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in his XI. As a result, Jaffer selected only three pacesetters in captain Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
Due to this medium pacer, Shardul Thakur found no place in his XI. Shardul has been an integral part of the Indian test teams for some time now, mainly due to his all-round performance.
He has helped the team several times with courageous punches with the bat on the plank.
As the fourth option for fast bowling, Shardul has made significant breakthroughs and played a key role in the team’s 2-1 lead over England last year.
He is considered by many to be a good starter at Edgbaston, but Jaffer’s approach is quite a surprise.
He also decided to open the innings with Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara, leaving Hanuma Vihari at number three.
promoted
Such a decision would only be possible when the field is dry. England’s decision to play Jack Leach could be an indication that there is buying power for spinners.
It will be interesting to see where XI India play ends up with.
