Discarded wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha from Team India, who also had a falling out with the Cricket Association of Bengal, is in talks with Tripura for a potential player-cum-mentor role, an official said. “He wants to play the role of player-mentor for Tripura. He has been in talks with some members of the Apex Council in Tripura, but nothing has been finalized yet,” an official here told PTI.
“He must first get a certificate of no objection from the CAB and then from the BCCI and then it will be arrested,” he added.
Saha could not be reached for comment.
The 37-year-old, who played a stellar part in Gujarat Titans’ IPL win in their debut season this year, had withdrawn from the Bengal draft after being rejected from the Indian test team for Sri Lanka.
After that, CAB secretary Debabrata Das made some unsavory comments about Saha’s decision to the media, questioning his commitment, something that annoyed the seasoned wicketkeeper batter.
After making a mark in the IPL, Saha was named in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match squad of Bengal against Jharkhand, but without his consent.
The veteran wicketkeeper made a big exception and reportedly sought an apology from Das. He later made it clear that he will no longer play for Bengal.
