Adobe is adding a number of new generative AI features to Acrobat Reader in an effort to improve users' creativity and productivity when using digital documents. The company now allows users to create and edit images in PDFs using only text prompts.
Adobe says Acrobat, powered by Firefly AI, is the first application to offer in-app generative AI capabilities. The new update adds two new features: Edit Image in Acrobat and Generate Image in Acrobat.
The Edit Image feature allows users to access tools such as generative fill, background removal, erasing and cropping. It allows users to remove unwanted objects from the images, remove backgrounds and add new images right from the Acrobat Reader app.
Meanwhile, the Image Generation feature allows users to add new images to their PDFs by leveraging the power of the Firefly Image 3 model. This feature allows users to adjust the size and style of an image and add it to any part of a document.
While speaking about the need for the new feature, Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Adobe Document Cloud, said in a release: “With generative AI, we can once again advance the category with image creation and insights in a new set of document types, leaving every customer with a deeper understanding and the ability to transform information into compelling content – with the ease and speed of a simple prompt.”
Additionally, Adobe is also providing a major update to the Acrobat AI Assistant with two new features: document insights and improved meeting transcriptions. The Insights feature allows users to identify key themes, trends and relationships across a group of documents such as PDF, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. The AI assistant also provides users with answers and adds quotes so they can easily verify the source of information.
The enhanced transcription feature allows users to create generative summaries of a meeting transcript to more quickly understand the main topics, key points, and action items in the document.
