Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 releases in November and before that, Activision has revealed a brand new map coming to its Battle Royale counterpart. The large-scale metropolis, called ‘Urzikstan’, will be available in Warzone 2.0 sometime in December, as part of Season 1 content. The region was first seen in the 2019 revamped MW game and is also playable in the endless respawn compatible Plunder mode. Located on the eastern border of the Black Sea, this map comes with 11 unique points of interest, peppered with horizontal funiculars and dirigible trains for easier movement.
Activision describes Urzikstan as the point where the Middle East meets Europe, with locations including the Levin Resort, Popov Power, Orlov Military Base, Seaport District, Urzikstan Cargo, Olf Town, Low Town, Hadiqa Farms, Zaravan City, Zaravan Suburbs and the Shahin mansion. The latter is located far from the empty cities, with marble tiled floors and a double staircase in the lobby, making for an impressive close-quarters combat zone. However, the exterior is densely populated with tall buildings and industrial areas, with small windows through which enemies can try to peek and surprise you. Players have a better chance of avoiding that by looking for horizontal ziplines, which, as the name suggests, glide you across the map at high speeds. Some of these are connected to floating drones, which essentially lead nowhere, but they can be used to dive back down and explore areas from above.
Another new addition to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is pilotable trains, which operators can land on and control. There are levers on the driver’s seat to control its speed and direction, but an enemy team can easily climb onto the back and turn the handbrake to stop the vehicle. Now the two teams are at odds, as the driver is now forced to rush all the way back to release him, and likely be destroyed in the process. Then there’s the new Gulag, which offers three lanes of combat, with a very small chance of being sent into one that takes place in the dark. Of course you are equipped with night vision goggles and the firearms themselves project a laser, which can be seen by others.
Activision has also released a trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, which now takes place on an open world map. Given the expanded scope, for the first time ever, players will have to team up with other squads online in an all-out PvE battle. It seems like the traditional round-based affair is gone, even though there are still story elements and benefits to discover as you hunt endless hordes of the undead, some of whom turn into grotesque monsters that shoot laser beams from their eyes.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. The Urzikstan map will be released sometime in December as part of Season 1 content.
