Alex Cohen's social media post about meta-cutting DEI programs left everyone divided — including newly elected President Donald Trump's first friend, Elon Musk.
Hours after Meta announced it was cutting DEI programs, the Hello Patient founder said, “I was fired from Meta today. I created the policy that provided tampons in all men's restrooms. I was shocked to see my role eliminated as part of the DEI cuts. The work I did was so crucial to our company culture. I know I will get back on my feet and come back stronger!
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the post with a laughing emoticon.
What are DEI job losses?
Meta recently made a major policy change and announced that it will be ending its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
The policy change was confirmed in an internal memo Meta sent to its employees (via Axios), reportedly written by Vice President of Human Resources Janelle Gale.
Explaining the reasoning behind ending the DEI program, the memo said: “The legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing.”
“The United States Supreme Court recently issued decisions that signal a shift in how courts will approach DEI. … The term “DEI” has also become loaded, in part because it is perceived by some as a practice that suggests preferential treatment of some. groups over others.” Gale further added.
The Tampon Row
Meanwhile, a DailyExpertNews report claims that Meta has ordered the removal of tampons from Meta offices in Silicon Valley, Texas and New York. The tampons were reportedly provided by Meta to non-binary and transgender employees who used the men's room.
The new changes come after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in an Instagram video that the company was changing its moderation policies by ending its fact-checking program and replacing it with the X-like Community Notes program.
