Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday that the national capital will have 100 charging stations for electric vehicles in the next two months.
Kejriwal inaugurated 11 charging stations on Tuesday and said the facilities would also include battery exchange points.
“Before, battery change points and charging stations were different, but now they are clubbed together. These 11 stations have 73 charging stations. In the next two months, Delhi will get 100 charging stations,” he said.
The Prime Minister said most of these charging stations were placed near metro stations so that people can leave their vehicles at the charging stations, take the metro to their destination and then return home with a fully charged vehicle.
The charging stations have been established under public-private partnership, for which the Delhi government has identified 100 land plots, he said.
The equipment and manpower have been made available by the concession holders.
In a tweet in Hindi, the Prime Minister said: “Today I inaugurated 11 charging stations in Delhi. These are based on a unique model. After the vehicles are charged at these stations, it will be extremely economical to drive them. Today, Delhi has given the world the cheapest model.” He said that after charging his vehicle, a user would spend 7 paise per kilometer for a two-wheeler, 8 paise for a three-wheeler and 33 paise for a car, which is more economical than petrol, diesel and CNG.
Launched in August 2020, the ambitious Delhi Electric Vehicles policy aims to increase the share of electric vehicles to 25 percent of total sales by 2024.
Speaking about the announcement of the show issued to Delhi’s Dialogue and Development Commission Vice-Chairman Jasmine Shah, Kejriwal said: “The cabinet has appointed him and only the cabinet can question him.” The Delhi government’s planning department on Monday issued a notice to Shah over allegations of “abuse of public office” by acting as the “official spokesman” of the Aam Aadmi party (AAP), sources said.
The move came after a complaint from BJP leader and West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma.
The Aam Aadmi party had called the announcement “another attack on the Delhi government due to the rising chart in Gujarat”.
