Delhi airport operator DIAL said on Wednesday that its facial recognition technology-based DigiYatra facility will be available to passengers at all terminal 2 and 3 entry and boarding gates by the end of March.
The DigiYatra facility at the terminal 1 entrance gates of the airport is likely to be operational from April.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, operated by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), is the largest airport in the country and has three terminals.
In the first phase, the DigiYatra facility was launched on December 1, 2022 at three airports – Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi.
“Currently, around 2,500 passengers use DigiYatra daily at Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport.
“After the installation of all DigiYatra infrastructure in Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, approximately 40 percent of daily domestic travelers will have seamless access to the terminal, security and gates,” DIAL said in a press release.
With the use of DigiYatra, DIAL said passengers can save about 15-25 minutes of their time in the process from entrance checks to security checks during peak times as they have to spend a few seconds at each point of contact.
According to the release, DigiYatra-enabled gateways are being set up at Terminal 1, which are likely to become operational from April 2023.
DigiYatra is a biometric boarding system that uses facial recognition technology to provide a seamless and hassle-free experience for passengers at airports.
