A parliamentary panel has recommended that the Union Home Office encourage state governments to identify cyber hotspots in their state and maintain a data profile on the cyber crimes committed in those hotspots.
The Standing Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs headed by BJP MP Brilal noted that it believes that despite the massive increase in internet connectivity in the country, there may be a significant population in several states and territories of the Union who may be has very limited access due to various reasons.
“The committee recommends that the Department may encourage state governments to identify cyber hotspots in their state and maintain a data profile on the cyber crimes committed in those hotspots and the measures taken to contain those crimes,” the panel said. in his report submitted to parliament. on Friday.
This data, the panel said, could be collected by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) and shared with other states for policy making by them to address such cyber crimes.
The commission therefore recommended that the police could adopt different strategies, such as announcing its performance in the meetings of the community, village and district level commissions at regular intervals to increase interaction between police and people, organizing awareness weeks and Jan Sabhas, among others. The focus should be on a nationwide capacity-building campaign, with an emphasis on developing and instilling high professional and ethical standards, as well as attitude and social skills in staff, it noted.
The commission noted that states and Union territories have been requested to install IP cameras in strategic locations in all police stations and conduct a periodic audit of all installed CCTVs.
The committee further notes that the Department of Law and Justice has been approached to advise states and Union territories on installing cameras in district courts. The panel said it would like to be kept informed of the status of action taken by the states and territories of the Union in this matter.
