Google Chrome on Android is set to get a big accessibility boost with the new 'Listen to this page' feature. The feature was first announced by Google last month as part of the Android feature drop and is now reportedly rolling out via the Chrome 130 update.

When the feature leaked behind an experimental flag in June this year, there were very limited use cases where the audio would be muted once the user closed Chrome or turned off their phone's screen, similar to how YouTube Music works.
However, according to a latest report from 9to5Google, the Listen to This Page feature is getting a major upgrade and can now continue playing music even when you quit the Chrom app and open other applications.

The reader menu appears at the bottom of the page when the article is running in the foreground, while when switching to another app the media controls are available in the quick settings, where you can play or pause the music, go to a specific section on the page or move up and down the audio for 10 seconds. Meanwhile, when tapping the reader in Chrome, there is also an option to adjust the playback speed from 0.5x to 4x and choose from 10 different voices.
Additionally, Google also allows adding a dedicated play button for web pages by long pressing the new tab icon, clicking the edit shortcut and changing to Listen to this page. Notably, Chrome is already one of the most popular browsers on Android and with the latest updates, it has also gone neck and neck with the Listen to Page feature in Safari, which offers similar functionality.
