Google announced four new updates for Chrome on iOS devices: iPhones and iPads in a November 12 blog post. These include saving online content to Google Drive and Google Photos, Shopping Insights and Google Lens features for Chrome on iOS.
Here's everything you need to know: Chrome on iOS
- Google Lens search: In the new Google Lens update, you can now add text descriptions to your photos while searching. Previously, you could take a photo or upload one from your gallery to search for an image. Now you can also add words to your visual search to search with images and text at the same time.
“This allows you to perform more complex and specific searches, with more useful and relevant results,” the blog said. Functionalities include asking a question about the image, or refining the search using color or attributes.
Furthermore, the blog noted that depending on your search, you may also get an AI overview that brings together the most relevant information from across the web. To open Lens, simply tap the camera icon in the Google search bar.
- To save files and images to Drive and Photos: With the update, you can now free up storage space on your iPhone, iPad, and iOS device by sending content from the web directly to Google Drive and Google Photos via Chrome.
This means you no longer have to download the information/image to your phone's memory and then upload it to the cloud. Now to add a file from Chrome to your Drive, tap the Google Drive option when you save the file.
Files you download from Chrome on iOS are now saved to a new Drive folder called “Saved from Chrome.”
And images from Chrome to Photos can be saved by long pressing the image and then selecting “Save to Google Photos” when the context menu appears.
To use this feature, you must be signed in to at least one Google account.
- Shopping Insights: For Chrome iOS users in the United States, Google has started rolling out a feature that will help you find deals while shopping.
Once the feature is available on your device, Chrome will show Shopping Insights for a product you're viewing. You'll receive a “Good Deal Now” notification in your address bar, which you can tap to view details like price history, price tracking, and more buying options.
To start saving, make sure you're signed in to Chrome and the “Search and browsing better” setting is turned on. The feature is being rolled out to more regions.
- One tap to view the map of an address: While you can already view a map of an address without switching to the Maps app from Chrome, the update makes this “even easier,” according to the blog.
“If you soon see an address for a specific location on a website, all you have to do is tap the underlined address. You can then view a mini-map of the location directly in Chrome. . We are currently experimenting with this feature and will continue to roll it out globally in the coming months, so keep an eye out for it on your device,” the blog said.
Google also said that more Chrome iOS features are likely to come in the coming months.
