Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg blasted Apple for inventing something new in the last twenty years. He stated that Steve Jobs invented the first-ever iPhone and the Cupertino-based tech giant has been waiting for it ever since.
Zuckerberg spoke with Joe Rogan during a nearly three-hour podcast, where he also discussed the new changes to Meta's moderation policy, the rivalry between Meta and Apple, Apple's app store policies and more.
“(Apple has) used the (iPhone) to implement a lot of rules that I think feel arbitrary. I feel like they haven't really invented anything great in a while. It's like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now they're stuck with it 20 years later.” Zuckerberg said in the podcast.
“Actually, year after year, I don't think I'm even sure they're selling more iPhones right now. I think sales could even decline. Part of it is that each generation doesn't get that much better. So people simply take longer to upgrade than before.” the Meta CEO added
Zuckerberg on Apple's app store policy:
Zuckerberg also criticized Apple for charging the 30 percent fee charged by Apple as a way for the company to subsidize declining iPhone sales. He said: “So the number of sales, I think, has been generally flat to declining. So how do they make more money as a company? Well, they do it by squeezing people and imposing a 30 percent tax on developers.”
About Apple Vision Pro vs Meta Quest:
Speaking about the battle between Meta and Apple to take control of the virtual reality market, Zuckerberg said: “They shipped something for $3,500 that I think is worse than what we shipped for $300 or $400 So that obviously wasn't going to work very well.”
They are a good technology company. I think their second and third versions will probably be better than their first versions. I think the Vision Pro is one of the bigger swings in doing something new that they've tried for a while.
